About Us

The Dangerous Snorkelling Club was founded one night in a hotel bar on the Island of Samos in 2011 by a small group of underwater junkies and some Greek guy called George. We think he was serving the drinks, but we can't be sure.... No one’s seen him since, but we know he was there; we have the photos….
Based out of the U.K. our aim is to demonstrate that there can be more to the sport of snorkelling than floating head down through calm azure waters watching shoals of multicoloured fish drift past your eyes, and that Freediving is not just about seeing how long you can hold your breath. On our travels we’ll be plunging into rough dark waters, navigating our way through minefields of jagged rocks, struggling against fast moving currents and doing a spot of underwater body surfing in the waves. Oh and we’ll be trying to take some photos and videos at the same time.

 A Note On Safety

We don’t do Health and Safety; in fact we think Health and Safety is for people who have an unhealthy obsession with high visibility clothing and cannot get a proper job. However we are not suggesting for one minute that having experienced the pleasures of the more sedate form of snorkelling, that you should now up the ante and equipped with a cheap snorkel and mask from the local tourist shop rush headlong into the sea during the middle of a storm. Rough water snorkelling, night snorkelling, apnoea diving or the exploration of rocky shores and caves are not for everyone. That of course doesn't mean you can't share in the experience or savour the schadenfreude when we get it wrong from the safety of your computer. So have a look at the photos, videos and posts of our travels. If you like them then great, if you don't then that's fine too, one man's meat and all that. And if, for whatever reason, you feel inclined to try your own hand at the more extreme end of the snorkelling experience then please, please, please take our advice. Your safety is, at the end of the day, your own responsibility.  Make sure your insurance covers you and make sure you know exactly what your doing, and then... Don't do it!

 A Note On Locations

Our travels normally take us to the Mediterranean Sea or Atlantic Ocean. This is due to the fact that the shoreline and sea conditions are more to our linking. Sheltered coral reefs, perfect sandy beaches and exotic paradise islands are bit dull to us; there is also the fact that we prefer to spend our money on the après-snorkel activities rather than long haul flights.

A Note On The Spelling Of Snorkelling

Snorkelling is the UK spelling. Snorkeling is the US spelling.
Verb (UK snorkels, snorkelling, snorkelled; US snorkels, snorkeling, snorkeled) [no object] (often as noun snorkelling)
We will always use the UK spelling in our posts, so please don’t think that you spotted a spelling error. Besides the bloke who does all this webby stuff for us often does it down the local pub (free wifi-the cheapskate), so there are probably a great many other spelling mistakes to look for.

 A Note On Posts

While we endeavour to post regularly we cannot always guarantee this. We all have proper jobs and these often take precedent. We also have families who are often soooo demanding.... Anyhow you can expect at least two or three new posts a month. We'll also endeavour to upload new movies and pictures as and when we can. This of course is subject to our travels - never expect much in July or September as these are club trip months. Oh and the football season (soccer for our American friends) usually interferes considerably as we are either at the match or down the pub arguing about the match. What we're trying to say here is, we'll do as much as we can so check back regularly.

Oh and thanks to all those of you who visit and read our stuff, watch our movies and send us messages. We really do appreciate it.
